I used to live down the street from the little warehouse that held Black Sparrow Press. They also published Wright Morris. Thank God for small press publishers!

We have a small poetry reading group and every reading we include this poem because it talks to each one of us in a very poignant way.

Thank you for sharing a slice of Bukowski. Few suspect now what a radical he was at the time. A Frank O’Hara for those on the margins. And that’s high praise. I wouldn't want him sleeping on my couch but I’m glad to find him here.

I quite enjoy Bukowski, he's willing to show us his ugly parts and his beautiful parts and he does have a way with words.

So much vulnerability in this piece.

One of my favourites. I have a post scheduled for tomorrow about him. Stay tunned

Bukowski knew how to break a reader's heart.

Over and over again. This poem does it, every time.

This is the best Bukowski poem I've ever read. I don't enjoy the Old Boot much, but this a fine thing!

Such a fine piece. No matter how many poems I read, I always come back to this one.

I haven't sent a comment on a poem here for a while. This one whispers softly to me ... show your heart's bluebird to this kind poet. He wrote just for you.

This does feel like it's being revealed/confessed one on one. So glad you connected with this one.

It’s nice to see these words from Bukowski, a decent man twisted up by the world and by things over which he had no control. How many of us have walked that path. And yet, a heart and kindness can show through. There is hope, he shows.

Such a unique ability to dive right into the complexity of humanness.
