After reading a watered down and underwhelming piece that has found much success online, Breathe restores my faith in poetry. Thank you for sharing with us.
Hurrah! OPD has posted something exquisite! Wonders shall never cease! So how is it that you post something wonderful, and then the next day you post something worthless? I don't get it. Do you just roll dice or something?
'Visits and leaves' repeated is a mark of poetic genius. Form expressing content. Mark, and remember. Then understand poetry.
I agree about the inconsistency here. Almost given up a few times, but then something like this comes along, and I stick around. My conclusion is that most poetry is so mediocre as not to be worth putting out there, but this sounds rather harsh.
Agreed - I keep getting this close to leaving, but then - like a dinner party guest who is wonderful (darling) when she's had a few fizzies - something happens which, had you just smudged them all away in the first place, you'd never have gotten to see.
Breathe is a wonderful collection, by far Hicok's best. I've enjoyed his work for years, but Breathe is at another level, the best poetry I've read in years. Thanks for sharing this poem.

I, for one, doubt that any of this is real…..

This is the kind of poem that needs to be spread far and wide or maybe it is the far and wide that needs this poem? Either way... I am sharing.
Thank you, Janet! :)

Hi Chuck, we’d love to consider publishing your review of it at OP if you write it :)
Thanks! I will give that serious thought.
