My god, she is so good.

What a poet! Seems she goes into every realm of human experience. I wouldn't have expected this from her.

Kist wjem O tjpigjtt I'd read all of Oliver! Such a different poem from her others where she steeps herself in the heaven of nature instead of the hell of this world drawn so clearly here that the images are etched into our minds.

Mary Oliver shows us how to write a poem for the times...

"a craziness we have so far no name for-

all this I read in the papers,

in the sunlight,

I read with my cold, sharp eyes."

I didn't know this poem! It feels so different from Mary Oliver's usual subject matter, but all the more interesting for it!

Love the contrast in the conclusion -

"in the sunlight,

I read with my cold, sharp eyes."

The external separation

of sitting in the sunshine, reading,

and the internal coldness that you are reading with,

or feeling,

or feeling because you've read too much.
