It comes across like one of the worst passages from 'the bible'. That infantilised repetition.
There is zero beauty whatsoever in this. It is entirely unmoving.
And given the - one assumes - point of the poem is to 'move people to make a difference', that utter lack of deeper feeling or poesy or beauty or anything effectively renders this piece of writing a sad ironic joke.
The far greater irony in this 'poem' is that there is not one instance of comprehension that the planet herself is an intelligence. Not one empathic understanding about those non-human lifeforms the writer 'professes to care about' - it's just typical, sad, anthropocentrism and it says and means fuck all in the grand scheme of things.
Just, yet, another example of something masquerading as poetry which, ultimately, no one will ever read in a hundred years from now.
And that's the true test of a poem - will someone want to read it in the centuries to come?
OMG. Some honesty. The poets he cites would never have written this. I want to check to see if there are lines taken from their poems. Is this a cento? I feel that when Only Poems lists a great poem, it's from an older poet, someone not popular today.
I often get the impression that we are being deluged with crap and slop as an insidious agenda to destroy humanity's sense of the aesthetic - and by correlation, their spirituality, their deeper feelings, their access to the spirit.
Apologies for the hyperbole. Or not, as it happens.
It means that decent poetry has far less of a chance of getting heard. That's the real problem.
This is an absolutely atrocious 'poem'.
